低電力超高速マイクロプロセッサのアーキテクチャに関する研究

研究概要

平成15年度においては,前年度に確立した低電力超高速マイクロプロセッサの設計方針が実際に有効であることの検証を主眼として,研究を行なった.前年度に得られた知見から,低電力超高速マイクロプロセッサを設計するにはチップの熱密度を抑えるためのチップ内並列処理が有効であることに着目し,いくつかのマイクロプロセッサアーキテクチャの考案と評価を行なった.その大分類としては,まず,トランジスタ密度が極めて高いチップ上において,チップ上の時間的,空間的な動作を巧みにパイプライン並列化することにより低電力超高速処理を実現するアーキテクチャの開発と評価を行なった.さらに,このアーキテクチャを効果的に利用するために,従来の命令レベル並列性だけでなく,細粒度から粗粒度までの広範囲のスレッドレベル並列性を柔軟に抽出する手法の考案を行なった.また,抽出されたスレッドレベル並列性を組み込み型マイクロプロセッサにおいても効果的に活用する手法を考案と評価を行なった.一方,パイプライン処理を実現するために必要な半導体素子を大幅に削減する低電力設計手法を確立した.さらに,アプリケーションの特性を詳細に分析することで並列性を抽出し,高並列度で動作させる専用プロセッサの開発を行なった.これらの成果を得る過程で,米国スタンフォード大学で平成15年8月及び11月の2回,研究打ち合わせと中間報告を行なった.また,平成16年2月及び3月に平成15年度分の研究成果を米国スタンフォード大学で発表した.併せて,国内でも3回,研究分担者で集まり研究成果の中間発表会を実施した.これらの成果はまた,査読論文29件,基調講演1件,招待講演2件,著書1編により発表された.
