特別推進研究
本プロジェクトは、社会階層の流動化と固定化という、一見相反する現象を統一的に理解・説明するための階層論を展開することを目的とした。この目的のために、理論的な検討をするとともに、データ分析のための社会調査を実施した。2005年に日本、韓国、台湾でほぼ同一の調査票を用いた実査を行った。また労働市場の流動性の影響をもっとも受けている若年層を対象とした郵送調査・ウェブ調査を2007年に行った。これらの調査データを用いた分析結果は、全15巻の研究成果報告書にまとめられた。また報告書以外にも、プロジェクトメンバーによる学会報告や論文・単行本刊行は多数に及ぶ。本研究プロジェクトは総合的研究なので、社会階層と社会移動をめぐってさまざまな視点からの分析を展開した。このため、研究成果すべてを述べることはできないが、たとえば(1)佐藤俊樹『不平等社会日本』で示されたホワイトカラー上層雇用の閉鎖性は2005年には存在しないこと、(2)非正規雇用者になる傾向は低学歴者と女性に高く見られること、(3)所得格差については正規雇用と非正規雇用の間の格差が大きいが、その格差が拡大しているかどうかは慎重な検討が必要であること、などの知見が得られた。また本プロジェクトが、本格的な東アジアにおける社会階層と社会移動の比較研究として初めてのプロジェクトであることも特筆に値する。その成果の一端は、研究成果報告書第13巻『東アジアの階層ダイナミクス』に収められている。
