研究概要

多様な研究領域からなる地域研究において研究成果の体系化と共有化を推進するために、情報学的手法の積極的な適用を試みた。この情報学的パラダイムを地域情報学と呼ぶ。地域研究における手法や成果の計量性・客観性・再現性を保証するため、地域情報学では計量化、特に事象の時空間属性と語彙の関連性に着目した情報システムの研究開発を行った。同時にタイおよび八重山諸島を中心に、マラリア等の疾病データ、気象等の物理環境データ、所得・生業等の社会・経済データの所在調査を実施し、情報システムの適用を試みた。
