| 研究実績の概要 |
In AY2021, the prosodic effect of negative polarity items on particles in Japanese, the exclusive particle TU in Swahili, as well as noun class markers in Xitsonga were examined. In Japanese, we found gender-differentiated realization of pitch excursion, and in the prosody of TU in Swahili, we found the edge-effect of intonational phrases. In Xitsonga, the noun class markers interacted with the size of a following NP. Results were shared at domestic and international conferences, and reports were written into papers and books. Digital archives contained primary data for wider use of the data.

理由
The project is progressing smoothly. The analyzed data has revealed underreported patterns in the literature, which allows us to contribute to new facts about the prosody of particles in Japanese, Swahili and Xitsonga.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
AY2022 is the third year of the project, and we plan to work on the dissemination of the findings while further processing collected data. After working on individual languages in the first half of AY2022, the second half of the year will be devoted to developing a comparative framework for understanding the prosody of particles, focusing on the prosodic status of particles with reference to their morphological status such as clitichood and affixhood.

Originally planned international travel for data collection was not possible due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. As such, some funds from AY2021 will carry over to AY2022.
