研究実績の概要 |
The objective of this cross-linguistic study is to examine whether L2 learners of Japanese are sensitive to verb transitivity when selecting case particles. I adopt a prototype-based view of acquisition where I also take L1 influence and overall language proficiency into account.
The main achievement for the first year of this research is the data collected through surveys targeting Japanese language learners whose L1 is Vietnamese. This required composing a Japanese verb-list of around 600 commonly taught transitive verbs and their translation in Vietnamese and investigating their argument structure to construct the research questionnaire. Another achievement is a peer-reviewed article on the effect of prototypicality on Persian-speaking learners use of Japanese particles.

現在までの達成度 (区分)
3: やや遅れている
理由
The overseas surveys were delayed, and the project timeline pushed back because the Japanese courses had not completely gone back to face-to-face classes making data collection difficult.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
-create the second questionnaire and implement it in India. -analyze the data and report it in a peer-reviewed journal.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
I could not travel to either Vietnam or India for the survey as the the universities had not returned to face-to-face classes. The survey targeting Vietnamese-speakers was conducted online. I hope to use the surplus as travel expenses for an international conference.
