2013-2014 has been a very fruitful year for my attempt at drawing an all-encompassing and didactic inventory of the specific characteristics of French extreme contemporary poetry. The articles I published in the last two years have been very well received, and therefore I have been invited to take part in several international colloquiums in Japan and abroad to publicize the results of my research, as well as invited to give lectures in foreign universities. I was able to pursue in-depth research at BNF (French National Library, September 2013), New York Columbia University and Vassar College Research Institute (March 2014, USA) and Mc Gill and Laval Universities in Canada, where I gave lectures and seminars on today’s French poets (P. Alferi, J. Roubaud, A. Portugal, etc). My aim was to explore how ultra-contemporary poetry came to appropriate ancient or sometimes archaic and foreign poetic models and techniques, whether among French or foreign poets (i.e Japanese ancient poetry for J. Roubaud, Persian and Arabic poetry for R. Sekiguchi, who although being Japanese writes in French, 19th century women poetry for A. Dickow, a young American poet who also uses French as his language of choice), while at the same time branching out in varied unexpected domains (ecology, biology, political discourse or even financial analysis) in order to gather, adapt and co-opt a new vocabulary, widen its field of inquiry and thus expand its poetic material.
