本研究の目的は，高次の幾何的思考の育成を目指した，中学校および高校数学における幾何教育の改善と開発をすることである。そのために，幾何的思考の理論的検討と合わせて，生徒の幾何的思考を実証的に明らかにする。最終的に，思考が連続的に発展するような授業の構成及び単元の設計を提案する。数学の形式化や定義の設定による幾何的概念の過程を，その再帰性および身体的認知理論からの知見に基づいて記述した。特に，実際の幾何的思考は，認知と概念との複雑な相互作用からなるものである。本研究では，この両面を併せ持つ記述枠組みを提示しつつ，数学的規則の存在によってこの相互作用が数学的に促されうることを示した。
