Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Atiyah-Singerの指数定理は閉多様体上の線形偏微分方程式の解空間の次元から決まる「指数」を、ある条件の下でトポロジカルに与える公式である。 プロジェクトの最終年の今年度は、これまで得た指数定理関係の成果の中で、不十分であった2点の課題について新たに取り組んだ。いずれも物理学者の深谷英則・大野木哲也・山口哲の3氏および数学者の松尾信一郎・山下真由子の2氏との共同研究による成果に関するものである。

(A)2018年度に我々はAtiyah-Patodi-Singerの指数定理のドメインウォールを用いた記述に数学的証明を与えたが、その際本質的であったのは開多様体に対する指数の局所化の命題が、ある強い仮定の下で成立することであった。この種の局所化はK理論の切除定理に対応する基本的な性質であるため、その強い不自然な仮定の除去が望まれた。今年度はこれに成功した。議論の鍵は、従来のWitten変形 D + th を拡張し、 D+f_t h の形の変形を適切なf_tに対して行うと、tの増大に伴って作用素の極限が存在することである。

(B)2019年度に我々は任意の多様体を格子ゲージ理論的に扱う枠組みを提案した。その構成では、与えられた多様体を高次元トーラスに埋め込み、高次元トーラスの正方格子上の適切な係数付きのWilson-Dirac方程式が、格子近似の方程式として得られる。準結晶のアナロジーでは、その格子をさらに簡約した埋め込み像の近傍にある格子のみの有効的な記述が望ましく、その達成は、任意の多様体のある種の格子近似の上でWilson-Dirac的方程式が構成となる。単なる定義域の制限では境界からの寄与が無視できず困難であったが、上記(A)の方法を援用して困難を解消するアプローチを見出した。ただし、最終的な方程式の明示的な書き下しにまでは至っておらず、これが残された問題である。
