Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、大気ニュートリノを用いた質量改装構造等のニュートリノ振動研究と、次世代基幹実験実現のための準備研究を行う。
前者では、「スーパーカミオカンデ」検出器において取得された高統計かつ高精度の大気ニュートリノ観測データを用いて、ニュートリノの質量階層構造の世界最高感度での研究と世代間混合の精密測定を行う。前年度にまとめたニュートリノ質量階層構造の研究結果に関して、Toy MCを用いたp-value計算を行い、順階層構造に対するp-valueとして、91.9% (sin2θ23=0.6の場合) および94.5% (sin2θ23=0.4の場合)を得た。したがって、90%以上の信頼度において順階層構造であるとの結論を得て、この成果をPhysical Review D誌にて発表した。またミュー型ニュートリノが振動した結果であるタウ型ニュートリノの観測を行い、観測/期待値 =1.47±0.32(順階層として)となり、タウ型ニュートリノの出現現象を4.6シグマで観測し、またタウ型ニュートリノの断面積測定も行った。以上の研究成果を論文として投稿した。
さらに後者では、次世代ニュートリノ検出器「ハイパーカミオカンデ」のための要素開発と実証試験を行ってきた。従来型に比較して、光子感度2倍と時間精度2倍、耐水圧性能も2倍を達成した光センサーのための、、防爆ケースの改良型の水中での実証試験を行った。スーパーカミオカンデで長期試験を行う約100本に関しては、基本的な性能チェックを行い、長期試験の準備をほぼ完了した。
文科省による大型計画のロードマップ2017において、優先度の高い7プロジェクトの一つに選ばれ、概算要求の条件がととなったことは大きな達成である。
プロジェクトの中核となる次世代ニュートリノ科学連携研究機構を東京大学内に、宇宙線研究所とカブリ数物連携宇宙研究機構、理学系研究科の参加により設置した。
