Research Abstract |
I identified potentially thermally sensitive parts of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences of vinegar fly (Drosophila melanogaster) by comparison of complete mtDNA sequences of flies lineages adapted on different thermal condition in nature. I'm testing whether these mitotypes are selected in hybrid populations experiencing different thermal regimes in laboratory conditions. This experiment should enable me to resolve whether a thermal environment can shape the evolution of mitochondrial genomes in populations.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
I'm currently genotyping samples from my experimental populations. The genotyping process is taking slightly more time than I hoped ; however, I still expect to submit a manuscript before the end of my fellowship.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Samples will be genotyped by the Sequenom genotyping system and the data will be analyzed. The analysis will be presented at an international science conference, and published in a scientific journal. FY2014 budget will be mainly used for (i) laboratory consumables and (ii) genotyping services, with remaining funds applied to (iii) travel expenses for the conference.
