Research Abstract |
Clinical applications of second messenger imaging by PET has been demonstrated in the fields of brain function study, myocardial remodeling and tumor diagnosis. Basic study of cell culture and animal model made clear that the imaging by ^<11>C-labeled 1,2-diacylglycerol ([^<11>C]DAG) response to PLC activity and ^<18>F-labeled 1,2-diacylglycerol ([^<18>F]FDAG) response to PLD activity. [^<11>C]DAG is used as potential imaging tracers for postsynaptic biological responses in human brain of healthy normal subjects and with various diseases such as stroke, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. The [^<11>C]DAG study in myocardial infarction(MI) suggested that this technology may be useful for visually detecting regions with activated PI metabolism in the process of ventricular remodeling after MI. [^<18>F]FDAG applied to tumor detection based on the response to PLD activity in cultured cell, tumor tissues and animal models and the results suggested that [^<18>F]FDAG are used as potential imaging tracers for early stage of tumor growth. The simplified PET-MR fusion imaging computer program has been developed to promote clinical application of kinetic analysis. This technology for medical imaging of second messenger systems will be new frontier in various fields of rmedical diagnosis.
