Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research is an international comparative research of corporate restructuring. Japanese companies have changed their management style like European and American companies after economic crisis, and have lost their competitive advantage. Decentralization to their divisions is important things for big diversified companies to manage their environment. However, it is not so good strategy for competitive advantage to decentralize excessively. Japanese diversified companies have to keep their management dynamic capabilities and parenting management skills in their headquarters. They have to make a network organization to make new businesses in these dynamic environment.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究は日本企業の事業再構築と組織改革についての研究であり、現実の企業を対象とした実証研究であるところに学術的、社会的な意義がある。現在、日本企業はバブル崩壊から立ち直り、成長に向けて事業展開がなされているように思われるが、それらが本当の意味で競争優位につながっているわけではない。日本企業が本当の意味での競争優位を回復するためには、本社により適切な戦略的マネジメントを行うとともに、環境変化に対応できる柔軟なネットワーク組織を作ることが必要であり、それを実証的に示した点に本研究の学術的、社会的な意義がある。
