Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project examines the activities of the composer Arnold Schoenberg and his circle in the interwar period as a turning point in the evaluation of Franz Schubert. In Vienna and Berlin, I examined some primary sources such as Schubert’s music containing several notes written by Schoenberg and manuscripts about Schubert’s symphonies written by the conductor Hermann Scherchen. Based on this research, I clarified their interpretation of Schubert and demonstrated their close relationship to Theodor Adorno’s essay on Schubert and postwar musical aesthetics.
