Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
1) The BKAS website is now live, but the planned 'interactive elements', to include a gallery and forum have not been realised. Principally, this is due to problems sourcing adequate scanning equipment within budget to cope with A0+ size newspapers, the core of the gallery. Alternatives are being explored. The forum will be tied to the international conference in H31. While some output is offered in bilingual form, further translation is needed. 2) Quantitive analysis of book advertising for c1760-1800 has commenced, but has not yet been fully analysed. 3) Discussion in BKAS Workshop I focussed on research mechanisms more than expected. Limited discussion on book advertising definitions was insufficient to complete an overview research article. However, it remains an important goal.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
1) Development of gallery of advertising images with extensive scanning work and production of metadata; 2) BKAS Workshop II, Waseda University, 5 April 2018 - featuring a comparative element, especially book advertising in periodicals and the fiction market; 3) Editing and monthly dissemination of workshop papers through BKAS Essay shorts platform; 4) A substantial survey research paper on book advertising; 5) BKAS Workshop III (now moved to March, 2019, to be held at the Institute of English Studies, University of London); 6) Completion of quantitive analysis of book advertising c1760-1800, with metadata accessible on BKAS website; 7) Ongoing planning for International conference in Japan on book advertising.
