Outline of Final Research Achievements

Atsushi Tago supervised an analysis of the persuasive effect of the authorisation of international organisations on public opinion and the informational effect of government statements on public opinion in invisible crises, in collaboration with Professor Grieco of Duke University, USA, and Associate Professor Quek of the University of Hong Kong, China, with Shoko Kohama of Hokkaido University and Naoko Matsumura of Kobe University. The team of Matsumura, Grieco and Tago conducted multiple online survey experiments and accumulated findings on the first topic. Also, there was initial agreement on the usefulness of conducting an experimental study on the invisible crisis as a mirror image of the Chinese research that had already been conducted, and the experiment was partially modified to fit the Japanese context.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本プロジェクトの大きな意義は、日本の国際関係論・国際政治学の研究者がアメリカや香港の研究者とともに協働し、しっかりと成果論文を国際ジャーナルで刊行したことにある。国際共同研究強化（Ｂ）の目標に照らして十分な貢献ができたものと考える。
共著論文を書くことは研究者の間に相応の共通したテーマ・関心が存在し、そして最後まで論文を書き上げて協力できる信頼が欠かせないが、それを構築できた２つのチームのつながりを活かし、今後はさらにオンライン・サーベイ実験手法を用いて、日本をフィールドにしてテストすべき仮説と理論を選び、国際関係論・国際政治学の普遍的な発展に向けて研究を行っていきたいと考える。
