Research Abstract

The result of this study have made the fact clear that saddle querns which were one of food processing tools in Neolithic China were used for crushing and powdering seeds. The objects of processing are mainly cereals, such as millets and acorns, and the usage of quern stones were examined at least 2 or more ways. Moreover, it has become clear that there are differences in the objects and the usage of the stones between the materials which were used in the culture of Peiligang, as well as effected by the same culture, and ones which were used in the other Shandong areas; it is assumed that the differences were due to the varieties of the societies and cultures between the regions.
