Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Further developments to the research instrument have been made as more students and teachers continue to utilize the P-CHAT tool. Presentations of data gathered during the research period have been given at large domestic conferences in the fields of general language learning and self-access language learning. Publication of research reports using data collected during the research period is an ongoing challenge, as the research methods adopted were pioneering due to the originality of the research itself. The researcher is currently working with a writing support group to draft a publication that meets the standards of the field. Findings suggest that while the tool may be useful for pedagogy, the reliability of data represented as learner-generated self-transcriptions is not high enough to base high-stakes decisions on. One article was published which has served to increase awareness of the tool and the line of research, and the tool is being adopted at more and more institutions throughout Japan and possibly Korea.
