Research Abstract |
The study aimed to investigate the role of helix-loop-helix (HLH) transcriptional factor Id1 in angiogenesis. Histological analysis showed that Id1 exhibited a mosaic pattern, mixed with strongly or weakly Id1-expressing ECs during ex vivo and in vivo angiogenesis. Analyses using cultured cells showed that Id1 regulated Dll4-Notch signaling pathway, and that Id1 expression appeared to oscillate periodically, suggesting a possible spatiotemporal regulation of the Notch signaling by Id1 in vascular endothelial cells. Furthermore, we have established a time-lapse imaging and computer-assisted analyzing system, which quantitatively characterizes the cell behavior in angiogenesis.
