Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study clarifies the characteristics of the sight movement of a skilled accompaniment pianist during the performance. Four cases of subjects, including a proficient accompaniment pianist, were employed in the present study. Their eye movements during accompaniment, such as songs and nursery rhymes, were documented with a spectacle-type eye tracker and, consequently, examined the given data based on the recordings. The results from the analysis indicate that skilled accompanist pianists have a strong tendency to move their eyes to the keyboard and the singer less often than other less-skilled pianists during the accompaniment of music.
From the result, it would be appropriate to introduce a method that can improve the non-visual-spatial cognitive ability to reduce the number of movements to the keyboard visually appears to be a possible option to train accompanist pianists, school teachers, and nursery teachers.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
