Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The GOAL project has progressed this year with the help of the second funding from JSPS. The GOAL application is updated to connect to physical activity data from Garmin which allows the usage of the system at institutions where students already have wearable devices. Initial analysis of the previous data that was logged in the GOAL system was carried out. Based on that findings were published in different avenues. The GOAL interface was also updated to include new dashboards and to support multiple activities. Studies were conducted while school students used GOAL during language learning activities, specifically self-directed extensive reading. The logged behavior data and the activity outcomes are being analyzed. Initial findings show increase in activity outcomes of the students reading. The results are submitted and currently under review in journals.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
While it was a difficult time due to the pandemic which did not allow to actively implement the project in field and collect data. Bit of the drawback was the lack of travel to international conference which limited the interactions with other researchers and get face to face feedback.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The project looks forward to implement the system to study at both university and school level courses as per the original plan. It has made progress to capture learning data and next would capture physical activity data by giving specific tasks to the participants of the study.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Due to COVID-19 restrictions there was a disruption of the travels to international conference originally planned for. The balance amount is carried forward and would be used to further develop the GOAL platform and procure latest mobile device and sensors for testing.
