Research Abstract |
Topical application of isopropyl unoprostone retarded progression of retinal degeneration in the rhodopsin transgenic rats (P23H). Degeneration of rod photoreceptor outer segments were apparently protected in the treated rats comparing to the control rats by electron microscopic investigation. On the other hand, there was no difference in gene expressions in the retina between both groups by DNA microarray analysis. These results indicated that protective effects of topical unoprostone may not be a direct effect to photoreceptors.
