| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project started from the understanding that the conventional understanding of "life" and "matter" is being renewed due to the progress of science and technology. Theoretical research on the entangled relationship between "life" and "matter" was compared with production practice in the field of bio-media art in a original way, and the significance of each was critically examined in a complementary manner. The seven members, divided into two groups, one for theoretical research and another for practical production, worked together to critically incorporate discussions on media archaeology, new materialism, and anthropology, and to verify them based on production practices related to hardware/software/wetware. Finally, the results were made public through presentations at several conferences, papers, exhibitions, and workshops.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究はまず芸術実践として、人文系の理論調査と制作系の実践活動を有効な仕方で連動させることができた。アーティストたちによる個別の実践をもとに、生命と物質の関係にかかわる理論的な言説を抽象化することなく具体的な事例に即して検証する一方で、制作実践としてはバイオ・メディアアートやクリエイティヴ・コーディングなど、その内実がいまだ十分に明らかにされていない新たな動向の批判的な意義を提示することもできた。それらの成果を国内外の学会や論文、展覧会、ワークショップなどの多様な手法をつうじて公開したことから、十分な学術的ないし社会的意義を提示することできたと考えられる。
