Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study focuses on the "parking problem of large trucks at rest areas on expressways," which is one of the logistics issues that have become more serious in Japan in recent years, and attempts to derive a solution to the imbalance between supply and demand for parking spaces at rest areas, especially during late-night hours, through interview surveys, questionnaire surveys, and data analysis of the actual use of parking spaces.
As a result, we proposed charging for parking as a measure to ensure truck drivers' rest breaks, and clarified specific fee levels based on the actual demand volume.
We also focused on the multiple subcontracting structure in Japanese truck transport business, which is considered to be a background factor for the above problem, and clarified its current status, factors, and future measures that are required.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究成果の主たる学術的・社会的意義は、「高速道路の休憩施設における大型トラックの駐車問題」の解決策として有料化を提示し、その具体的な水準を導出したことである。
休憩施設の有料化は、高速道路SA・PAにおける利便性向上に関する検討会による提言にも包含された。本研究の内容は、その検討に寄与するとともに、今後の具体的検討の基礎となるものと考える。
また、物流の2024年問題を迎え、トラック輸送事業における多重下請構造は、解決が求められる喫緊の課題である。本研究で整理した知見は、その解決の推進に寄与するものと考える。
