Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During 2023 I have continued my research on Duong Lam’s commune in Hanoi District - Vietnamese first ‘ancient village’ and on the Old Town of Hoi An in Central Vietnam. I have read new published materials regarding these two places and in February 2024 I’ve conducted fieldwork in Duong Lam village and Hoi An’s Old Town to interview local residents, to collect materials and information in regard to the current situation in both locations. During 2023 I have written an article on Duong Lam village and submitted it in December 2023 to the Journal of Southeast Asian studies, however, the article was not accepted for publishing yet and I need to improve my article and to add new information that I have obtained during my last visit to the village in February 2024. Moreover, I am in a process of writing an article on creative destruction in Hoi An's Old Town. I'm also in the process of creating a short film on Hoi An Old Town's overtourism and 'creative destruction'.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
During the last academic year I could conduct fieldwork in Vietnam and to collect new research materials in regard to Vietnam's first 'ancient village' - Duong Lam commune, and in regard to Hoi An's Old Town, which contribute to the articles I am writing.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
During the 2024 academic year I am I’m planning to improve the article I've written on Duong Lam village and to complete the article on ‘creative’ destruction of Hoi An's Old Town. I'm also planning to conduct fieldwork at several Chinese ancient villages since I still could not implement my research plan in China; to complete the short film about Hoi An Old Town's overtourism, and to improve my article on Duong Lam village and to submit it for publication.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions two years ago, I could start my fieldwork in Vietnam much later than planned, therefore I have to continue my research during 2024 academic year in order to complete my research plan.
