Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examines a concept called quasi-adaptation for the purpose of reconsidering "the good child". For children around 3–5 years old, longitudinal data was collected on quasi-adaptation behavior, stress condition, temperament, and perfectionism. Analysis revealed the following findings: 1) The stress of a child exhibiting behavior to control negative emotions was high; 2) In terms of temperament, change was seen in "effortful control" and "surgency/extraversion" but not in "negative affectivity"; 3) Developmental change was not seen in quasi-adaptation behavior; 4) In terms of perfectionism, developmental change was seen in "concern over results" and "excessively high standards," but not regarding "desire for perfectionism"; 5) "Desire for perfectionism" was shown to be related to quasi-adaptation behavior.
