Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this research project, we have accomplished the development of a portable and easy-to-handle ultrasonic time-of-flight (TOF) computed tomography (CT) system which can practically visualize anomaly parts inside the structural members of buildings with cultural values for on-site structural inspection of them. The followings are the specific achievements: ①The methods for desiging and manufacturing small high-power sound sources, which can emit sharp and intense ultrasonic pulses into the object to be inspected with any sound
properties, have been concretely estabilshed. ②The image reconstruction technique, in which ultrasound wave propagation is taken into account, has been devised. ③Mechanically robust and light-weight TOF-CT instruments have been developed, and ④on-site automatic TOF measurement system has been realized in order to make the inspection works easy. However we have not accomplished integration of the newlydeveloped sound sources into the system and on-site imaging.
