Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study was to develop a sustainable management method for the restoration of beach ecotone in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures where tide embankments were constructed as part of a disaster reconstruction project. The vegetation and invertebrate fauna in the area had been affected by the ecotone breakdown caused by the embankment and coastal forest construction, so we conducted a sand covering test on the embankment slope with the aim of converting the embankment itself into green infrastructure. As a result, it was confirmed that the ecotone was restored by the establishment of vegetation, and it was also shown that the test contributed to the longevity of the embankment. In addition, as a result of conducting activities to restore beach vegetation as a class with elementary and junior high schools located in coastal areas as the core, it was shown that not only knowledge and interest were increased, but also local initiative was improved.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、まず、津波災害後の防潮堤建設や海岸林の盛土造成といった災害復旧事業による人為的撹乱が生態系に与えた影響を明らかにし、その軽減方法として防潮堤の砂丘化の有効性を示すことができた。これは防災と生態系保全を両立する、既存のグレーインフラのグリーンインフラかとして重要な示唆となった。また、人口減少下で大きな社会課題となっている自然資源の管理に対して、地域の小中学校での地域学習を核として、地域社会が主体的に取り組むためのロールモデルを提案することができた。これは地域学習を経た子どもたちが毎年増えつつ、PTAや町内会へと活動が波及し広がっていく持続可能な社会課題の管理手法の重要な提案である。
