Research Abstract |
Portal hypertension is well known as one of critical complications of liver cirrhosis. We have successfully treated portal hypertension in rodent models by inhibiting an effect of sphingosine 1-phosphate, a lipid mediator, with its receptor antagonist. Because our strategy had minimal side effects such as a reduction of arterial pressure, its application in human should be further examined.
