地層形成数値シミュレーションモデルの開発と大型水槽実験、フィールドデータへの適用

Research Abstract

本年度は昨年度に引き続き、数値モデルを実際のフィールドに適用する研究を行った。数値モデルの結果をフィールドデータと比較・対照し、モデルを検証すると同時にフィールドデータを新たな視点で解釈することが目的である。
テストケースとして、関東平野から東京湾に至る地域での古利根川による堆積作用を対象とした数値モデリングを行った。モデリング作業は大きく二つに分けることができ、一つは水文学的モデルによる過去の砕屑物供給量の推定、もう一つはその砕屑物供給量を用いた地層形成過程の復元である。砕屑物供給量の推定では、過去13,000年の気候と海水準の変動から古利根川の河川流量と砕屑物供給量の変遷を明らかにした。その結果、後氷期の古利根川の砕屑物供給量は海水準の上昇による流域面積の減少と降水量の増加の効果が相殺し、変動が比較的小さいことと、数日程度の豪雨が砕屑物供給量の年間値に大きな影響を及ぼすことがわかった。これらの結果は地質学雑誌に掲載された。地層形成過程の復元では、現在の東京低地にあたる地域を想定した計算を数値モデルSedFluxを用いて行った。計算結果は各地の沖積層に見られる一般的な傾向だけでなく、東京低地で得られた掘削試料のデータとも非常によく一致し、その解釈に新たな裏付けを与える結果となった。これらの結果は国際学会で発表し、現在論文を投稿準備中である。また昨年度に投稿したアドリア海北部での研究論文は雑誌Marine Geologyに掲載された。
