Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study addressed the research and development of an effective way of having learners express their ideas and opinions in the English classroom. It is often said that learners are unable to express themselves in English easily for the following reasons: their English proficiency is not good enough to express their thoughts, they have difficulty in forming their opinions, and they feel affective pressure in expressing their ideas and opinions. We have developed an effective way which enables learners to overcome these obstacles and verified its effectiveness by examining various aspects such as quantity and quality of learners' output, instructors' evaluation of the output, and learners' responses to the method. The teaching method we propose, Narrow Learning with a Built-in Core Task, is a skill-integrated learning process focusing on a single topic which includes a task that requires learners to express their ideas and opinions.
