Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research was to investigate the relations between Okinawa and Japan during and after the Second World War. The end of the war liquefied the societies in both regions, which was represented by wartime mobilization, refuge, and displacement, as well as postwar demobilization, repatriation and disarmament. Such issues have until recently received little attention. This research dealt primarily with repatriation related policies, and their relation to occupation costs and intercultural encounters. The research concludes that the three themes had significant impact on the formation of the postwar system.
