| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Eight breast cancer patients undergoing paclitaxel/carboplatin therapy (TC therapy) were included in this study. Objective and subjective changes in taste were investigated five times in total, on the 1st, 2nd and 4th treatment days, 1 month after the end of treatment, and 3 months after the end of treatment.
As a result of an objective taste survey, almost half of the subjects experienced changes in their salty and sweet taste sensations. As for the sour taste sensation and the bitter taste sensation, the number of subjects who experienced disturbances was small and the severity was mild. Most of the taste changes almost disappeared 3 months after the end of treatment.
Despite the change in objective taste, many of the subjects recognized that "I feel the taste normally", indicating that there is a gap between objective taste change and subjective taste.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究において、パクリタキセル/カルボプラチン療法（TC療法）を受ける乳がん患者の味覚について、①4種の基本味覚のうち塩味、続いて甘味が変化をきたしやすい。②味覚の障害は、治療終了後1ヶ月までは継続するが、同3ヶ月までにはほぼ消失する。③客観的に味覚変化を来しているにもかかわらず、主観的には味覚変化を詳細に自覚することは困難であるため、客観的味覚変化と主観的味覚変化にずれが生じる。④主観的味覚変化は、不快感、漠然とした変化として自覚される、という新たな知見が得られた。これらは，化学療法を受ける患者の食事・栄養療法において重要な意味を持ち、味覚変化を来した患者のケア改善のために重要な知見である。
