Research Abstract |
In the present study we have analyzed the various extended meanings of directional complements in Modern Chinese, taking speakers' spatial perceptions into account. In particular, we have analyzed those usages of directional complements for which the descriptions provided by dictionaries or grammar books is incomplete. In addition, we have attempted to produce a systematic interpretation of directional complement usages which are organically linked to one another.
