Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examined the multifaceted characteristics of poverty such as income (consumption), education, health condition and gender differences, in developing countries. The study mainly focused on South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa where income (consumption) poverty was the most serious. This study also investigated how the characteristics of poverty changed with the process of the economic development. In recent ten years, education and health output measures such as school enrollment and immunization rates were improved rapidly in many developing countries including the LDC. These improvement caused mainly by the international actions for the MDGs achievement. The tendency of such improvement is not strongly correlated with the process of economic development. We need a longer-term viewpoint for the improvement of health and education outcome and gender discrimination.
