Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In ascidians, invertebrate chordates, the neural plate border gives rise to peripheral neurons and pigment cells, as in vertebrates. Here I identified migratory neural progenitors derived from the neural plate border in Halocynthia roretzi. Fluorescence live cell imaging showed that these progenitors migrate anteriorly along the tail dorsal midline from tail tip during the tailbud stage. Furthermore, I found that migratory neural progenitors express neurogenin and that neurogenin expression in migratory neural progenitors requires MEK and retinoic acid signaling.
